Consistency in Training

Consistency in Training

Over the last few weeks, I’ve had the pleasure of training a friend’s retired Father. Some may think that’s nothing out of the ordinary and usually it wouldn’t be.

However, he used to cycle but has been off the bike for over 5 years. Starting from scratch, albeit a bit older than he used to be, all makes things a little tougher.

Over the last 4 weeks, I’ve seen commitment and drive to get some of that past fitness back. It meant starting with just 25 minutes of easy to moderate effort, slowly and carefully increasing the duration and intensity of each training session. We couldn’t build too fast because his muscles hadn’t been used to cycle for years and the risk of injury is that much higher.

All that said, today was a milestone I’m very proud to see him reach. He completed his first full session, all at the standard intensities.

Commitment and consistency are two of the main training elements needed to make improvement and my client has shown both. Next week we are discussing nutrition and the massive impact it has on recovery.

Train Smart everyone!!!
